Almost 80 % of the people started using Windows 7 or Windows 8 Operating System (OS), and if you are one of them, you might have noticed the default printing format extension is .XPS in Windows 7 and 8. OXPS in Windows 8. The XPS extension is not new to us, it was introduced approximately 7 years ago along with the Windows Vista OS, and Microsoft mentioned it as a PDF killer, but Windows Vista itself became a huge fail, so XPS formats failed to reach the major audience. Microsoft added them again in Windows 7, unlike before with much support, and the XPS extension is changed to OXPS with the introduction of Windows 8 OS.
So by default, if you use the print function to save or print documents, it will be in the xps extension in Windows 7 and oxps in Windows 8. It is not recognized as much; it should be like PDF among people. It is a pain if you don’t have a printer in your home and rely on printing shops to take printouts because if they use MAC, Windows XP, or any other operating system, this XPS and OXPS format will not be recognized like PDF, and hence printouts cannot be taken. If you have an Internet connection in your home, you can convert this XPS/OXPS to PDF format through online converting sites like Free PDF Converter, XPS to PDF, and OXPS to PDF. But if you don’t have a regular Internet connection, the following free software will help you to convert XPS/OXPS to PDF easily.
1) PrimoPDF :
PrimoPDF is the #1 free PDF software to convert many formats to PDF. It is easy to use software, and the best thing is the free version does all the needed things hassle-free. All you have to do is just drag and drop the file into the primoPDF icon, or you can simply click the print option on the page; it will take you to the primoPDF settings. Click the desired option (check the video tutorial below).

3) Free XPS to PDF converter :
It is another free software to convert XPS to pdf file format. It is very user-friendly with a simple UI, and unlike PrimoPDF and DoPDF, it doesn’t change the oxps format or other formats. It can only convert XPS to PDF format.Either a single file or folder can be added to convert according to the user’s needs.

Another option is to use an online converter like http://www.convertxps.com (a project of mine). Currently this one does not support OpenXPS (.oxps) files, but I am working on a solution.
